Cover your face and hair while outside in the sun
The sun damages your hair in the same way it damages your skin. The UV rays dry out hair and damages the natural protective film. This makes the cuticle (outer surface of each hair) dry, dull, fragile and brittle.
Coloured hair in the sun is especially prone to UV damage. It can fade, bleach and make the colour look brassy.
The drier the hair is the more likely to frizz.
If you don’t like hats…
If you wont wear a hat or scarf apply a hair product that contains UV filters.
Michelle recommends Kevin Murphy Shimmer Shine for darker hair and red heads or Shimmer Me Blonde for blondes. These are a treatment, add shine and seal the ends. Protect from harmful UVA and UVB rays. £25 each
.
Use a moisturising shampoo and conditioner with UV filters
Big natural re-growth coming through and the lovely weather we have been experiencing might mean you’re washing your hair more than normal.
Remove sweat and grime, condition dried out hair, de-frizz and provide sun protection filter to your hair in one step using the right home care. Michelle recommends Kevin Murphy Hydrate Me Wash and Rinse. £45 for the 2.
Deep treat once a week
Even in lockdown you deserve a pamper. Take time out, put on some relaxing music and run a bath. A bath is the perfect place to do a deep treatment on your skin and hair. The steam is great for a mini facial and for hair it will open the cuticle to allow the hair treatment to go deeper into the hair. A cold final rinse closes the cuticle trapping in all the moisture and giving immense shine.
Michelle recommends a mini facial of Crystal Clear Skincare Soothing Cleansing Gel £19.99, Crystal Face & Body Polish £31.99 and Protect & Repair SPF40 moisturiser £11.99.
Michelle recommends a weekly conditioning hair treatment of Kevin Murphy Hydrate Me Masque £30.
Dry your hair naturally
Give your hair a break from heated appliances that can be drying.
Let curls dry naturally
Michelle recommends Kevin Murphy Killer Curls £31 for a tighter curl or Killer Waves £31 for a beachy curl. These also contain a UV filter.
Create a wave while you sleep
If you wash your hair at night and while its damp wrap it up in a bun or braid it before you go to bed and when you wake up you’ll have pretty beach waves.
Michelle recommends Kevin Murphy Young Again Oil £33. It treats the hair, smooths, de-frizzes, UV protects and heat protects.
